The closure of Hudson's Bay Company has left a gaping hole in many malls across the country, which, in some instances, has added to shopping centre owners' burden of filling already vacant space created by the 2023 Canadian departure of once-anchor tenant Nordstrom. Quebec-based fashion and home decor retailer Simons has stepped up and into two Toronto malls, with the launch of its first urban flagship in Yorkdale, and soon-to-open store at the Eaton Centre. This commitment signals not just expansion but confidence that brick-and-mortar is still vital. |
