My family recently moved into a new home after nearly 15 years at the same address. Shortly thereafter, we made our very first big-ticket purchase — a mattress for my son's new (sort of) bed. The solid wood double bed had been in storage (at my parents' house) for more than a decade since his old bedroom could only accommodate a twin. In this instance, necessity fuelled the purchase. But for those who already have the correct size mattress, what prompts them to buy a new one? And when do consumers enter the replacement cycle? These questions are addressed in our feature article. |
