Just when the demise of Hudson's Bay Company was almost certain, the embattled retailer has received a bid to save 25 of its brick-and-mortar stores. A British Columbia-based billionaire and prominent Canadian shopping centre owner confirmed to a news media outlet at the eleventh hour that she has paid money toward the purchase. Anyone wanting to procure this country's oldest company or its assets had until April 30 to submit a binding proposal. Eighteen entities have also expressed interest in taking over the leases of dozens of stores, so perhaps HBC's demise is not imminent after all. |
